Alpina Company History

Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen GmbH is an automobile tuning company based in Buchloe, in the Ostallgäu district of Bavaria, Germany specializing in BMW cars. Alpina was founded by Burkard Bovensiepen (b. 1936) who is still the CEO.

Alpina vehicles are not BMW cars modified by Alpina. While other companies like AC Schnitzer, Hartge, Racing Dynamics, Hamann, and Dinan are tuners that modify cars Alpina are built as new cars and branded "Alpina". Alpina cars can be bought and serviced at any BMW dealership, and are covered if there is a warranty issue.

Alpina's philosophy is constant progress through technological innovation. This has been the motivation for ALPINA, a small but enterprising automotive manufacturer building special automobiles for a small circle of cognoscenti, for people who have a taste for exclusivity and the finer things in lifebut who aren’t in need of exhibitionist exterior presentation in their automobile. As we place less emphasis on an Alpina’s exterior differentiation than we do in its inner values, we choose to draw the basis for our automotive work exclusively from BMW, a great marque and one of the best and most technologically advanced.

These are automobiles whose chassis carry the fabrication experience of a first class volume market manufacturer. Automobiles exhibiting appropriate interior space and ensuring the efficient customer service of a world-wide make – namely BMW.

Alpina strive for the synthesis of fascination and reason.

A distinctive feature of Alpina vehicles are the 20 spoke alloy wheels, "Alpina Blue" patented metallic paint and expensive interior materials used to fabricate the exclusive interior appointments. A typical blue and green pattern (as in the logo) is often used on interior parts such as stitching on leather and other different fabrics used in the upholstery. A thin almost pinstripe like outside body decor set in gold or silver is also a trademark of Alpina cars. Finally an Alpina metal plate inside also proves the herritage and the serial number of the car.

Most recently Alpina have produced a version of the current BMW E60 5 Series called the B5, which rivals the BMW M5. The B5 offers a different take on performance and how to get it: unlike the V10 M5, the Alpina B5 uses a supercharged V8 which produces similar power but has far greater torque.
