About Us
The Alloy Wheels Direct Story
Alloy Wheels Direct started in 2003 and we’ve had an amazing journey with lots of fun along the way. We were founded by Chris Murray, our boss, who grew the company from a small shop trading on eBay to an eCommerce website selling wheels and tyres to happy customers around the world.
We’ve always tried to stay true to our core beliefs; to deliver exceptional customer service, to make it easy to buy original wheels online and to be a generally great company to deal with. Take a look at how far we've come...
2019 - We Hatch a Cunning Plan
Work commences on our new website or AWD 2.0 as we like to call it. A secret project that's been in the planning for over several years. Its very hush, hush.
2015 - Chris Wins Club 100 Heavyweight Sprint at Rye House
The thing about AWD is that we all love cars, and that makes our team. Chris races on a regular basis and the rest of us like to tinker. We even like to think we know a bit about cars, not just wheels and tyres.
2014 - Our German Warehouse Opens
We’ve built some great relationships and made good friends, especially in Germany where we opened a warehouse in Wegberg. It's made things cheaper for our customers and allowed us to expand our product range.
2013 - Mobile Wheel & Tyre Fitting
Making life easier for customers has always been the name of the game. So in 2013 we partnered with ATS Euromaster to offer wheel and tyre fitting across the UK & Mainland Europe.
2012 - New Operations & Customer Service Centre
We were growing rapidly and taking lots of orders online so we opened our operations and customer service centre at Prama House, Oxford. Very Plush!
2008 - We're Getting Bigger
Our fully fledged e-commerce site was live, our team was getting bigger and things were going a bit crazy.
2006 - We Move Into An Office
We weren't working from home anymore. A little office in Oxford was where it was at.
2006 - Our First Fitting Bay!
Why didn't we think of it before? we started selling tyres with our wheels, pre-mounting them in Alloy Wheel Direct's first fitting bay (think family garage).
2005 - Our First Website Site
Woohoo! Things were really starting to take off on eBay, so we created our very first website and started selling directly to our customers.
2004 - From Humble Beginnings
Back in 2003 Chris Murray decided to mix his passion for cars with his drive for business by starting a small shop selling new and refurbished alloy wheels on eBay. Not a fan of dodgy replicas Chris vowed only to sell genuine and factory original wheels.
